Swiatek, just 22 years old out of Poland, has won two of the last three French Opens and holds five total Grand Slams, and is coming off a clean two-set win in the semifinals.
Muchova, on the other hand, was told a year ago that her tennis career was in jeopardy due to injuries, but battled back and after an upset victory over Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 2 ranked player in the world, is playing in her first career Grand Slam final.
Swiatek is considered a massive favorite at sportsbooks, with DraftKings currently listing her as a -900 favorite. The comeback on Muchova is set at +600.
Iga Swiatek on Saturday will look to earn her third singles title of the 2023 season with a win over Karolina Muchova in the French Open and her first grand slam trophy of the year.
Should the world No. 1 beat Muchova, it would mark the third French Open title of her career and fourth singles grand slam championship. Whether she can beat Muchova remains to be seen, though she has emerged as the clear favorite at Roland-Garros.
Swiatek has made short work of her competition thus far beating each of her opponents in Paris in straight sets. That includes four shutout sets and a complete third-round shutout of Xinyu Wang, whom she beat 6-0, 6-0 for a rare "double bagel." She had it even easier in the fourth round as Lesia Tsurenko retired due to injury down 5-1 in the opening set and beat world No. 6 Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
She got her best competition from Beatriz Haddad Maia in the semifinals, winning 6-2 in the first set before heading to a tiebreak in the second. She ultimately won 7-6 (9) to set up the finals meeting with unseeded Muchova.
But the heavy underdog has already scored an upset at the French Open, upending World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in three sets including two tiebreakers to enter the finals. Win or lose, it will be her best career singles finish at Roland-Garros.
What time does Iga Swiatek vs. Karolina Muchova start?
Start date: Saturday, June 10
Start time: 9 a.m. ET (15:00 local time)
Swiatek vs. Karolina is scheduled to take place at approximately 9 a.m. ET (3 p.m. Central European Summer Time). The women's singles final will take place on Stade Roland-Garros' Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The final of the 2023 French Open will have the defending champion in front of a surprising presence. This game has Iga Swiatek playing Karolina Muchova to see who gets the title. Read more about the date, time and TV channel to watch or live stream the match for free.
Swiatek got to France as the main candidate and she has met the expectations so far. She had an injury at the Italian Open, but that hasn’t been a problem considering she didn’t lose a single set. Her resume has two Roland Garros titles, so she knows what it takes to win a Grand Slam.
Muchova has been a huge prediction-breaker getting to the final being ranked 43rd. It was especially her last matchup what took every headline because she defeated N°2 Aryna Sabalenka 7-5 in the third set despite being 2-5, including a saved match point. She is 1-0 in their head-to-head for a game played in 2019 at the Prague Open, when Swiatek still wasn’t the player she is now.
The International Criminal Court said Friday that it has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on suspicion of war crimes because of his alleged involvement in abductions of children from Ukraine. The court said in a statement that Putin “is allegedly responsible for the war crime of unlawful deportation of population [children] and that of unlawful transfer of population [children] from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.” https://lookerstudio.google.com/s/sQVIMy-XbNQ https://lookerstudio.google.com/u/0/reporting/eaf80056-fef8-45b4-bb45-efc8d8350831/page/zCDJD https://lookerstudio.google.com/u/0/reporting/eaf80056-fef8-45b4-bb45-efc8d8350831 https://lookerstudio.google.com/u/0/reporting/db420544-5fad-45e2-905a-181cf64ef874/page/lFDJD https://lookerstudio.google.com/s/tZv0CvtIzvw https://lookerstudio.google.com/reporting/db420544-5fad-45e2-905a-181cf64ef874 https://lookerstudio.google.com/s/ihLVE9lLwgg https://lookerstudio.google.com/re
